In /etc/dhcp/dhclient.conf, uncomment the line send host-name.
Remember that the router uses netbios names?
Do:
sudo apt-get install samba
sudo apt-get install winbind
in /etc/nsswitch.conf, change the line to:
hosts: files dns wins
Restart the ethernet connection by doing:
ifdown eth0; ifup eth0
You can also change the workgroup in /etc/samba/smb.conf if you need to get samba working later…
